How to choose Year 12 study resources
A practical framework for deciding which resources deserve your money and study time.
Start with the task, not the bundle
Write down what you need help doing: understanding a topic, practising questions, checking an answer, preparing under time pressure or choosing subjects. Compare resources against that task. A large catalogue is not a useful purchase if it leaves your particular gap unresolved.
Make a short list of your current subjects, curriculum and assessment year. Open a representative sample before buying. Check the wording, worked steps and accessibility on the device you actually use.
Separate official material from practice material
An official past paper and an original practice exam serve different purposes. The former shows a real assessment; the latter offers additional practice. Ask how the material relates to the current syllabus, which parts are original, and where official sources are linked.
A useful answer guide explains the reasoning as well as the final answer. Try a question first, then compare your working with the guide. Record what you misunderstood and choose the next task accordingly.
Compare the access period as well as the price
Record the total price, number of relevant subjects and when access ends. A fixed-term pass, an end-of-school-year plan and access for as long as a provider operates are different commitments. Compare the version you would actually buy.
Do not convert a package into an attractive monthly figure while hiding a required upfront payment. Include renewal terms, limits and separate purchases in your own comparison.
Use a decision log
For each shortlisted resource, note one strength, one limitation and the source date. Leave unknown fields blank and check them before making a decision. The best option is the one you can use consistently for the gap you identified.
