Official curriculum and assessment

To start QCE Marine Science revision, open the 2025 Paper 1 examination paper. Use the official resources below to choose a task, attempt it independently and check your response against the available assessment guidance. The practice sequence below explains how to turn that review into a focused next attempt. Confirm the paper’s course and syllabus year before using it.

How to practise this subject

These practice suggestions are editorial guidance from Australian Study Resources.

  1. Open the 2025 Paper 1, Questions 1–20. Task focus — Twenty one-mark items: coral prey capture structure, soft-coral classification, an indirect acidification effect on planktivores, why government agencies can manage parks, the settlement stage, barrier versus fringing reefs, fixed quotas; stimulus sets on turbidity and coral growth, a lobster fishery's catch against its TACC, coral-core humic acid and river discharge, abalone production by sector, rugosity versus fish density, and an SST/degree-heating-week chart used to judge bleaching timing. Attempt it before consulting the marking guidance, then identify the evidence or working that supports your answer.
  2. Open the 2025 Paper 1, Question 21. Task focus — Name an atmospheric carbon source and a carbon sink, then an ocean abiotic factor affected by atmospheric CO2 (pH). Attempt it before consulting the marking guidance, then identify the evidence or working that supports your answer.
  3. Open the 2025 Paper 1, Question 25. Task focus — Explain why some coastal fish populations have moved from subtropical into temperate waters, linking warming water to fish physiology and food. Attempt it before consulting the marking guidance, then identify the evidence or working that supports your answer.
  4. Record the specific point you missed, write a corrected response, and attempt another question that requires the same skill. Check older material against your current course before reusing it.

Plan your next practice session

Choose one explanation from your practice sequence. Separate what was observed from the explanation you propose, then identify a condition or limitation that affects the conclusion.
