How to practise this subject
These practice suggestions are editorial guidance from Australian Study Resources.
- Open the 2025 Written examination, Section One Q1-6. Task focus — Text 1, a lecture to parents on how the traditional outdoor Australian childhood has changed: a one-mark multiple-choice item on how the speaker characterises that childhood, explaining a sound-based metaphor for change, listing two changes to play, explaining how safety fears changed play, outlining three consequences of less unstructured outdoor play and describing the speaker's three proposed solutions. Attempt it before consulting the marking guidance, then identify the evidence or working that supports your answer.
- Open the 2025 Written examination, Section Two Q15-17. Task focus — On a podcast transcript about a Sydney primary school supporting Mongolian-speaking students: three actions the school took, two fact-or-opinion decisions (a census figure; a parents' belief) and two quotations supporting a stated positive perspective on the bilingual approach. Attempt it before consulting the marking guidance, then identify the evidence or working that supports your answer.
- Open the 2025 Written examination, Section Three Part A Q22/Q23. Task focus — Choice of a speech to students on the importance of listening to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples' stories today, or a speech encouraging migrants to take practical steps to maintain their first language. Attempt it before consulting the marking guidance, then identify the evidence or working that supports your answer.
- Record the specific point you missed, write a corrected response, and attempt another question that requires the same skill. Check older material against your current course before reusing it.
Plan your next practice session
Choose one response from your practice sequence. Identify its main claim, underline the evidence and explain how that evidence answers the question. Revise any claim that is broader than its support.
