How to practise this subject

These practice suggestions are editorial guidance from Australian Study Resources.

  1. Open the 2025 Written examination, Section One Q1. Task focus — Explain how a glass sculptor used three elements of art in a group of five lampworked glass figures, using art terminology; 4 marks per element on an explain/describe/outline/identify ladder. Attempt it before consulting the marking guidance, then identify the evidence or working that supports your answer.
  2. Open the 2025 Written examination, Section Two Q3. Task focus — Make comparisons and connections between two paintings by Australian artists: compare and connect formal organisation (5), compare and connect how each communicates meaning about human interaction and the environment with evidence (12, 2 x 6), and consider an alternative point of view of one work (5). Attempt it before consulting the marking guidance, then identify the evidence or working that supports your answer.
  3. Open the 2025 Written examination, Section Three Q4. Task focus — For the candidate's research artist(s): describe social, cultural and/or historical context (6); interpret the social, religious, political or cultural meaning of two artworks with evidence (10); evaluate the artist's success in communicating the intended message (6). Attempt it before consulting the marking guidance, then identify the evidence or working that supports your answer.
  4. Record the specific point you missed, write a corrected response, and attempt another question that requires the same skill. Check older material against your current course before reusing it.

Plan your next practice session

Choose a practical task or example from your course. Record one criterion, compare two approaches and document what changed after a trial. Use the same criterion to review the revision.
